History and Biography
Rose Johnson, T.C.R.G

Rose began dancing at the age of 6 with Frances Gibbons in Scarborough. She went on to dance with the world renowned Butler Academy under the instruction of the Mae, June and Paddy Butler. Her love for dance quickly grew and by the time she was 16, Rose was assisting Mrs. Butler with beginner and ceili classes. At the end of her performance career, Rose was an accomplished dancer placing as high as 3rd at her regional Oireachtas in solos and 1st with her ceili team which traveled to compete at the World Championships in Ireland.

In 1984, Rose passed her T.C.R.G exam and became a registered Irish Dance teacher with An Coimisiun, Dublin, Ireland, and The Irish Dance Teachers Association of Canada, Eastern Region. Rose opened her own school, Johnson Dance, and began teaching in Toronto, East York and Belleville. Today, she is happy to have a single dance home at Swansea Town Hall in Bloor West Village where she has taught classes since 1995. Since opening her school, Rose has had dancers compete in the Canadian, North American and World Championships.

Rose is actively involved with the Irish Dance Teachers Association of Canada, Eastern Region, and has been elected by her fellow teachers to serve for over 15 years as both Vice-Regional Director and Corresponding Secretary. Rose was one of the co-chairs of the 1995 and 2001 North American Irish Dance Championships and most recently was Chair of the 2008 Oireachtas in Niagara Falls.

Rose currently holds the position of Vice-Regional Director on the Executive Board of the Irish Dance Teachers Association of Canada, Eastern Region.
